While setting up an automated line for a German automotive supplier processing alumina (Al2O3) substrates, we hit a familiar wall. Seeking faster cycle times, their engineers applied high-hardness steel parameters directly to CVD diamond-coated tooling. Within three minutes, the cutting edges suffered micro-flaking, severe edge chipping ruined the substrates, and the entire batch was scrapped.
